DFMG Solicitors won the Irish IP Firm of the Year Award at the prestigious Managing Intellectual Property Global Awards 2008, which took place in Claridges in London on 9th April. Managing Intellectual Property is the leading international magazine for IP owners. The awards are widely recognised as an industry benchmark, with the results based on an extensive survey of industry peers and clients.
Commenting on the award, which recognises achievement in IP work over the past year (in prosecution, litigation, licensing or other work), Patricia McGovern, head of the IP Department of DFMG Solicitors, said: “we are delighted to be recognised in this way by the readership of Managing Intellectual Property. Winning Irish IP Firm of the Year 2008 is a tremendous accolade especially as the publication is a leading authority in the field of Intellectual Property.”
An IP expert, Patricia McGovern’s main areas of specialisation include all aspects of intellectual property law (contentious and non-contentious) including advice on and prosecution of trade marks, advice on copyright, designs and patents, passing off, counterfeiting and competition aspects of intellectual property. As a result the firm has been involved in a number of high profile cases regarding Intellectual Property, including acting for Karen Millen in the Karen Millen v Dunnes Stores case in 2007, when the label successfully took action against Dunnes Stores in the Irish High Court in relation to the sale by Dunnes Stores of striped shirts and a knitted top.
